When my 30 year career as a businessman in the west came to an end in 2010, we moved to China to teach International Trade and hang out with university undergraduates.  We initially expected that we might live here for a year or two, so we created this blog to stay connected with our family and friends while giving them some glimpses of life on this side of the world.  After four years, we still see new and amazing things almost every day.

The blog title reflects our southern heritage (originally from South Carolina) while trying to capture the dramatic change of such a move.  We used to think that spicy food meant just a little extra salt on the grits…
