As the Fall semester gets into full swing, we’ve been spending time eating lunch with my students:
One recent lunch gave us the opportunity to eat “fish noodles” for the first time:
Some other interesting foods given to us by students included a whole cooked chicken:
some hawthorn snacks in a patriotic Chinese package:
and a beautifully decorated cake:
But this week, the most common cake in China was the humble moon cake:
Like most people in China, I ate three of them. My consumption was slightly above average, so I figure that at least 3 billion moon cakes were eaten during the Mid-Autumn Festival!
The cake looks impressive!
I also am impressed with that cake. Taking a closer look, did it have tomatoes on it?
Very interesting as usual. The cake is grand—was it tasty? Loved seeing your family in the former posts. They’re growing so fast!
Mark, because of the city lights behind you, it actually looks like you’re about a moon cake and a nail!
The city lights are quite amazing – almost every new building has animated LEDs (a good topic for a future blog!)
The cakes here are very fancy on the outside, but fairly plain on the inside. An assortment of fruit is common, and yes, tomatoes are included as fruit here!
Mmmm I miss noodles! Those look so yummy!
