I don’t know what we’d do for breakfast without the oatmeal packets and coffee bags we brought from home. Hopefully, we’ll be able to cook something else when we get out of the hotel. We also use the boiling water from the teapot to rinse our toothbrushes. We’ve talked with some people who do this and some who don’t, but for now we’re opting to be cautious.
On the days I’m tired of oatmeal, I’ve tried cereal and box milk. The cereal tastes the same, but the milk is a bit different than my usual gallon of Publix 2%.
Below is an example of some Western/Chinese drinks that we’re using to stay hydrated. Of course, we’re trying not to think about how much we’re missing “sweet tea”!
Yummy!
Thanks goodness for pictures on the boxes!! I will think of you tonight drinking my sweet tea.
Yes, breakfast can be a little unusual. But you do have some American options like corn flakes.
The Kellogg’s corn flakes can be very comforting when you long for things that taste like home! It will be interesting to see how your taste buds broaden over time. Thinking of you daily! Glad that the study book had some meaning for you. That encouraged me!
Are the drinks bottled in China or elsewhere? Just curious. Make sure when you purchase the milk that it is not flavored….sometimes what looks like reg milk here will actually be vanilla flavored. That will throw you for a loop if you aren’t expecting it. As for the tea…..you could think of this time as an extra long season of lent. Maybe someone can meet your plane with a really giant glass when you fly for a visit.
The drinks are definitely bottled in China. Our biggest concern is when the drinks are bottled locally (as in behind the shop). We ate at a small restaurant today with bottled sodas opened before delivery to the table, which leaves such an option open. But the fried rice and steamed veggies were tasty, and the total bill was $4 for the three of us…
When will you be moving to an apartment?
Loving your blog chronicles! Its so fun to be reminded of things through fresh eyes! Look for the lemonade drinks that say C100 on them–they run about Y4-5, so a little more than many–put them in the freezer long enough to get slushy and you’ll have an amazing, refreshing drink as the days heat up this spring and summer!! One of our favorites!
I guess the silver lining to eating all of this oatmeal is that your cholesterol levels must be really low.
